Almost Famous Review

Almost Famous

Manchester has two almost famous restaurants – one in the northern quarter and another on Peter street. They also have one in Leeds and one in Liverpool.

Almost famous are a burger based eatery who sell meat and non meat burgers, accompanied with chicken wings and fries. Online, there is not a great deal around the history of Almost famous and their history which is a shame as I feel that once you read the background of a business, you can get to know the reasons behind the food they create.

The burgers which I have eaten at Almost famous are the “Triple nom” which consists of “double cheeseburger, pulled pork, slaw, redneck bbq & famous sauce”, totalling at £9.50. I thought that the bbq pulled pork didn’t have too much sauce on that it made the bun go soggy and there was just the right amount of pulled pork to compliment the beef patties and not be the overriding flavour. I do feel however that the bbq pulled pork burger has been around for a while now and that it was similar to other bbq pulled pork products I had had in the past.

The second burger I have tried is the “Guy Ritchie” which consists of “Double cheeseburger, cheddar, wonder buttered peppered steak, shoestring onions, pickles, smoky bacon ketchup & chipotle mayo”, totaling at £12.00 Although more expensive than the previous burger, I feel that this burger is definitely worth the expensive, with a goof amount of steak which just melts in the mouth and the ghurkins which at a bit of sourness to the flavour and the choipotle mayo adding the spice element. On first thought, I believed that the stake looked a little too rare for me as I like it to be medium rare and this was very rare, but I decided that this was the way it was meant to be made so thought I would give it a try and had been surprised with the taste of the stake and how soft it was.  I feel that this burger is one of the best burgers that I have ever had, but also bringing together flavours that I didn’t believe would go together, such as the steak with the burger and steak which chipotle sauce and ghurkins, but I feel that as a whole the burgers elements had been well thought out and tasted amazing.

Sides I had accompanying my burger have been the “winning fries” at £3.00 which are “a mix of skin-on & sweet potato fries. The second fries were the “bacon bacon fries” at £4.00 which include “winning fries, bacon bacon mayo & bacon rain. I feel that the winning fries were a little too basic for me, after trying the bacon bacon fries which were covered in sauce, with little pieces of crispy bacon drizzled over the top. There was something very moreish about the fries and the sauce as I feel was a perfect level of smokiness and spiciness.
